My Headshot

Hello! I'm Jackie Hu.

I'm a third year Ph.D. student at University of Michigan - Ann Arbor, School of Information advised by Prof. Yousif Hassan.

I study experiences of Chinese scholars in STEM in US academia through an STS lens. Previously, I examined how they navigate US state suspicion, surveillance, and border enforcement drawing on human-centered computer security and privacy scholarship.

I received a B.S. in Computer Science, a B.A. in Spanish Studies (see my Spanish Portfolio), and a minor in Ballroom Dance from Brigham Young University - Provo, where I worked as an undergraduate research assistant under Prof. Daniel Zappala on understanding motivations of secure email adoption and the usability of account recovery with passwordless authentications.

Here is my CV (updated April 2026).
